Privacy and Reducing Stigma

Personal medical information is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This ensures that those who are sick can focus all their attention on their recovery. It is very important to respect the privacy of all COVID-19 positive cases and not to disclose any suspicions if you believe you know someone who is positive. You must also respect the privacy of anyone who chooses to disclose their personal medical information with you. While we are all doing the best we can to mitigate the spread of the virus, we must expect that some members of our community will test positive, and it is important that we treat them with the same sympathy and understanding that we would wish to receive ourselves.

Contact Tracing

It is very important to report symptoms, potential exposure, or a positive COVID-19 test result on Loyola's Public Health Portal (accessible through SSO) and follow all recommendations provided to facilitate the contact tracing process. The contact tracing team will notify those who have been in close contact with individuals who have tested positive to let them know what they need to do. Student Health Services will follow normal protocols to advise faculty when students have health-related excused absences from class.
